THE UK'S FIRST POST-MODERN AFRICAN DANCE COMPANY ON NATIONAL TOUR
Sakoba, who are one of the country's leading African dance companies, are celebrating their twentieth anniversary this year and as part of these celebrations will be showcasing the companies work on a national tour.
The company will be performing their new production, Tiiwa, Tiiwa (It's Ours) featuring Clockwork (Aiduronijo), an abstract work with a contemporary twist with music by international jazz/classical composer Tim Garland. The programme also features Love Story (Ijo'fe), a short love piece rooted in Bode Lawal Post Modern African Dance Technique, the award winning Mystical Songs set to the inspiring music of Karl Jenkins hit Adiemus album "Song of Sanctuary" and an upbeat energetic finale, Kabaree.
Along side this performance will be the chance for several groups of young people who have been working with the company to perform work they have devised through workshops with the company#s Artistic Director Bode Lawal.
The show will feature a cast of of 7 dancers and 3 musicians choreographed by one of the leading spirits and creators of world dance Bode Lawal. Tiiwa, Tiiwa (It's Ours) will be a mix of the power and purpose of African dance with the most visceral and meaningful of contemporary moves. This highly charged work celebrates diversity and encourages respect and understanding between cultures.
Performing alongside Sakoba will be young people from schools and youth organisations that have worked extensively with Bode and other members of the company, using dance to exploring issues of relevance to them to produce dance pieces that will be performed prior to the companies own performance of Tiiwa, Tiiwa (It's Ours).
