The American Clock
DRAMA CENTRE LONDON presents THE AMERICAN CLOCK
By Arthur Miller, directed by Guy Retallack and designed by Mark Friend.
By turns tough, funny, elegiac and angry, Arthur Miller's play, written in 1980 is a free-wheeling, almost filmic account of America in the Great Depression, a celebration of the spirit of those who fought and survived and a lament for those who went under. Spare and unsentimental it offers a cross-section of American society caught up in forces which it cannot control. As one of the plays characters observes: "There's never been a country that hasn't had a clock running and so I keep asking myself how long?".
