LE GRAND MEAULNES

by Alain-Fournier, translated and adapted by Nigel Gearing, directed by Di Trevis and designed by Mark Friend

Based on the book by Alan Fournier - this fable-like story tells the tale of Augustin Meaulnes from the village of St. Agathe in provincial
Central France, who when out alone accidentally stumbles across an old chateau 'a lost domain'. Far from being deserted, the chateau is teeming with life - young people and children - who have gathered to attend the wedding of Franz de Galais. Augustin is welcomed by the group as an old friend and although the wedding is mysteriously cancelled and the group leaves - he meets Yvonne, the sister of Franz and falls madly in love with her. This obsession never leaves him and the play charts his attempt to understand the nature of this 'lost domain' and his life-long search for the woman of his dreams.
