Don Giovanni

Following the success of their 2008 collaboration on the Ambroise Thomas opera Hamlet, English Pocket Opera Company in conjunction with St Martins College - University of the Arts, will be staging an adaptation of Mozart's Don Giovanni in early 2009. Opening at the Cochrane Theatre Holborn in mid-January, the opera will then transfer to the Brady Arts Centre in Whitechapel.

This new production of Don Giovanni will be a unique and exciting piece of opera. The entire Cochrane Theatre will be used as a performance space, including the proscenium stage, foyer & bar area, paint floor, workshop and loading dock. This will allow the 8 designers from St Martins College to showcase their talents in individual scenes throughout the theatre.

The score will be performed in an abridged version, sung in English, and will run at around 90 minutes. Five singers will make up the cast in the roles of Don Giovanni, Leporello, Donna Anna/Zerlina, Donna Elvira and Commendatore/Masetto. The story shall be weaved together by a singer in the role of Leporello, who will lead the audience through the theatre, progressing the story as he goes.
