Black Snow

DRAMA CENTRE LONDON presents BLACK SNOW.

By Keith Dewhurst, from the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, directed by Christopher Ettridge and designed by Mark Friend.

this adaption of the novel by the banned Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov is a biting stire on theatre-making, actors and directors. Written as a riposte to the banning of his great play Moliere, Bulgakov (and his adaptor Keith Dewhurst) is merciless - and very funny - in his portrait of the Moscow Arts Theatre, and the paranoias of the Stalin era. Maksudov is the beleaguered Bulgakov, half in love with, half in horror of the egos and eccentricities of the theatre, and most of all, in thrall to the legendary but terrifying Ivan Vasilievich (aka Stanislavsky). All actors, writers and acting teachers beware - this play carries a health warning.
