A Cure for a Cuckold- Drama Centre London
DRAMA CENTRE LONDON - Presents:
A Cure For A Cuckhold
by John Webster and William Rowley
Directed by Annie Tyson & Designed by Mark Friend
Woodroff, a wealthy London citizen, is celebrating the marriage of his only daughter, Annabel. After the wedding masque the bridegroom unaccountably disappears, and Annabel, left “ a maid, a wife and widow in the compass of two days ”, is drawn to a young stranger who proves to be the saviour of her father’s trading fortune. Obsessive love and the betrayal of friendship make for a dark and dangerous mix as her husband returns. Alongside the testing of this new marriage is the renewal of an old one, as a sailor, Compass, one of the great comic creations of Jacobean drama, returns home to find that his wife has had a child by another man. Webster and Rowley combine to create a play rich in themes of forgiveness, redemption and second chances.
Drama Centre is delighted to rediscover and reclaim this lively, disturbing and compassionate play for a new audience.
