Figaro Gets Divorced
By Ödön von Horváth
Translated by Ian Huish
Three hundred years on from Beaumarchais and Mozart and Figaro's marriage isn't turning out to be quite so happily ever after.
In Figaro Gets Divorced, the characters from The Marriage of Figaro find themselves in eastern Europe in the 1930's; a world plunged into darkness by revolution. Odon von Horvath's darkly funny satire charts the rise of a valet, the fall of a count and the every day trials and tribulations of people caught up in the relentless march of history.
