Music Platform, in conjunction with BA Theatre : Design for Performance students at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, presents the Ambroise Thomas opera, Hamlet.
This new production of Hamlet will be a unique piece of opera. The entire Cochrane Theatre will be used as a performance space
including the stage, foyer, workshop and loading dock. This will allow the nine designers from Central St Martins College to showcase their talents in individual scenes throughout the theatre.
The Thomas score will be performed in an abridged version, sung in English. Four singers make up the cast in the roles of Hamlet, the story being woven together by an actor portraying the role of The Gravedigger (developed from Shakespeare's First Clown). The Gravedigger will lead the audience through the theatre, progressing the story as he goes, allowing the singers and music director time to transfer to their next scene.
Please note, audience members should wear comfortable shoes and dress warmly as part of the performance takes place outside.
