History

The Cochrane Theatre has an enviable history. Peter Brookes opened the second season of The Theatre of Cruelty here in 1964 and we were the London premiere of Loot by Joe Orton in 1965.  Ballet Rambert made their home here for several years as did the National Youth Theatre and most recently Talawa.

In recent years we have presented a West End transfer of The Gondoliers from The Watermill, Newbury. We have earned a Time Out Award with Swollen Tongues in association with Off the Cuff. Tom’s Midnight Garden - Unicorn Theatre won the Barclays Stage award for best children’s show here and we presented their Christmas show Rumpelstiltskin and produced the critical successful "The Laramie Project"
